Government health care that was passed, too far, good start or not enough?

Aside from the spinning rhetoric by both political parties, does anyone really know what the health care plan contains?? Thousands of pages, and all I've heard is that kids with preexisting conditions cannot be denied coverage. There's got to be more than that. I do know that it falls short of nationalized healthcare, so it has fallen short.

Thought of th Day 2011 #17 - Amelie

I watched Amelie again tonight. I hadn't seen it in several years. I lurve it probably more than the first time I saw it. It always puts me in a good mood.
I noticed the use of green and red much more than I ever had in my previous viewings. I suspect that is because my previous old, old tv showed the color black as deep red. The hdtv color difference is almost like seeing The Wizard of Oz on a color television for the first time.

UPDATE: As Stacy Stutz, some lady I know from Facebook, just said: "It's all fun and games until it goes viral on YouTube" ... and you cry about it on TV and hint at launching a lawsuit, and the Streisand effect kicks in.

"In the hours that followed Cathy Cruz Marrero's appearance on 'Good Morning America' today to talk about the fall and its aftermath, she was in court for a status hearing on charges of five felony counts, including theft by deception and receiving stolen property," reports ABC News.

Turns out Marrero's been out on $7,500 bail since 2009, after being charged with running up more than $5,000 in purchases on a co-worker's credit card. No wonder she had a lawyer handy.

Marrero's next court date is April 21, and she's facing about six months of house arrest and electronic monitoring, according to the Reading Eagle. So all y'all talking about how if she just shut up and went on with her life, nobody would know it was her in the fountain —maybe six people recognized her — are more right than you realized. While it's unknown how many people knew about her theft charges, we all sure know about it now.

Wow...who would have thought she was probably in it for the money?? Oh, pretty much everyone with a clue.  Idiot!!

Thought of the Day 2011 #16 - Special Sort of Idiot

An idiot texts at a mall, falls into fountain. (click here to view). Mall cops post blurry, unrecognizable surveillance video of idiot on YouTube. Video is funny. Millions watch video as it goes viral. Idiot finds out from relative that video is on YouTube. Idiot complains to mall security. Mall cop is fired for sharing idiot's flip into the fountain. Previously unrecognized idiot goes on television to announce that she is suing for damages from the embarrassment of the video being posted online and being recognized for being an idiot. Aside from the handful of people who knew she had fallen in the fountain, no one else would have recognized her. So, damages?? The real damage is to the idiot's pride for being an idiot two times over. Once for texting and swimming, and the other for putting her idiot face on television to claim she was somehow wronged.

Thought of the Day 2011 #14 - Sleep Science

My sleep cycles are so reliable these days. I can predict to within 10 minutes of how long I will sleep at night. I sleep in just over 2.3 hour segments. I try to get 7 hours of sleep a night, so if I know I want to wake up at 7 am, and it's 11pm, I try to stay up until midnight so that I can wake up naturally without the alarm jarring me awake. Waking up with the alarm makes me irritated, especially if I am dreaming at the time. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but prior to taking synthroid, my sleep cycles were fairly regular at 3 hours each, so three, six, or nine hours of sleep worked best. I guess it makes sense that when metabolism is increased other bodily functions are faster, too. Do people with severe hyperthyroidism sleep at all??

Every time the Celebrex ad comes up on tv, I am irritated and amused by the phrasing of this warning: "People taking aspirin or the elderly..." People taking the elderly? Are there really elderly thieves? Or people eating the elderly? I really think that if the writers were thinking, they might easily fix it by saying, "The elderly or people taking aspirin..." This would quickly eliminate the possibility of cannibalism.

I've been fat all my life...I don't know anything different. Accepting my body -- the good, bad and ugly -- I would suspect wass no different than anyone going through puberty.

Thought of the Day 2011 #12 - Cold

I have heard over the years that "rinsing your hair in cold water will make it shinier". Nothing sounds more brutal after taking a nice warm shower than switching on the ice water at the end. Brrr!  Is shiny hair really worth that rude blast??

There was a news story making its rounds tonight about Pat Robertson saying the northeast snow storms were god's way of preventing gays from doing "gay activities," problem is, it wasn't factual, but a bunch of reliable sources like Huffington Post and Yahoo carried the stories as 'opinion' articles. It's easy to miss the 'opinion' designation. It was so similar to an Onion story, but with normally reliable sources carrying it, it was hard not to pass on because it was so outrageous.  
So, thought is the day is just, "be careful out there."

I've started watching Mad Men in earnest. I'm closing in on the end of the first season and have DVDs of season 2 & 3 thanks to a gift from my brother. It's a pretty interesting series thus far... sexy, smart, and fashion friendly. I like the historic hints peppered throughout, too. Good stuff, I tell ya.

Thought of the Day 2011 #6 - Diet Advertisement

There's a diet ad on television that starts out by saying something like "everyone enjoys the satisfaction of fitting clothes."  Really? Are there people so large they don't fit clothing? Don't think so...even someone 1200 lbs can fit clothing. I think this ad's script fell victim to an over zealous editor's hand and loss the implication that one might feel satisfied in *smaller* clothing.

It's 2011, right? Electronic bill payments have been around for over 15 years or so. It surprises me that our local sewer company doesn't have their own online bill pay system. We're all required to use the same company, so you'd think with a customer base so large it would be economically smart to engage with the consumer in this way? I think it was a year ago or so that they finally decided to accept payments through a third party. Serious? A third party?? You get all of our lovely sewage and this is the kind of shit we get??

Maybe I'm watching too many not-very-scientific-yet-oddly-interesting cable television specials, but I think the flocks of birds in Arkansas and Louisiana were killed by extra terrestrial aircraft. You know, when they take off, they do so quickly...the birds wouldn't know the best way to avoid impact, and sadly came in contact. I'm calling the cable networks now...

Thought of the Day 2011 #2 - Hidden Sucralose

Years ago, I wrote about sucralose, an artificial sweetener, appearing unnecessarily in non-diet foods: http://blog.catay.com/search?q=Sucralose. Sneaky, sneaky. What's crazy is that the sneakiness has now extended beyond food products. Imagine my surprise when I read the ingredients in KY His&Hers sexual lubricant. In the "his" version...there is is....sucralose! Oh, the humanity!! Even having sex isn't safe anymore. Darn those sucralose pushers!!

What is your preffered way to survive the rest of this long cold winter? Soup? Movies? A few good books? etc.

I really think, above all, is heating -- in my house, car and other buildings I visit. That's not asking for too much? The rest of it is just fluff that occupies my time much of the rest of the time of the year.

Thought of the Day 2011 #1 - Polydactylism

It's a dominant genetic "defect" that until recently I had no idea it was as common as it is. 1 in 500 births. That's a lot of extra digits. Sure, most of the extra fingers are no more than a boneless fleshy digit, but I can't help but wonder why they are routinely chopped off? Is it because most people have five and they don't want the kids seen as freaks? Is it because it gets in the way?

I guess my thoughts about it is that it may have a purpose beyond our comprehension. What if that extra digit provides for a sixth sense? What if the aliens who are planning on returning won't come until a certain percentage of humans have the sixth digits? What if it's perfect for picking one's nose? So many possibilities...

What surprises me, too, is that there are people who believe in "intelligent design" yet they want to manipulate something that is a dominant trait? Shouldn't they embrace all of the oddities as "designed?"

What do you prefer, a belly rub, back rub or a leg rub?
