Thought of the Day #284 - Ghost Towning

Spent much of the day at a ghost town in Utah. I love seeing and finding
remnants of the past. I also like photographing the remaining buildings
and surrounding environment. What's a little bit disturbing is that each
time we go back to this ghost town, the buildings degrade more and
more...some due to vandals and the rest due to natural erosion. It won't
be long before all of the remnants are wiped clean. But, not to worry
too much, there will be some current cities that will be ghost towns for
future generations to discover.

Know what you mean, Cat. Friends and I used to go ghost Town hunting in the Mojave back in the mid 60s and early 70s. We saw much the same degradation as you have seen back then. Folks would shoot up the buildings and abandoned equipment, sometimes pull them down or burn them from one visit to the next. Sometimes just locals scavenging lumber or what they could use. No respect for history or the next visitor. We were usually glad that we got to visit so many while they were in reasonably good condition. Fortunately, we still have some photos.
