Thought of the Day #277 - Halloween

Getting ready for our annual Halloween party today. Initially, I was
going to host a baby shower in the afternoon, and the Halloween fiesta
in the evening. With my step-daughter's pregnancy moving along quickly,
her doctor asked that she not travel more than an hour outside of her
city. Sooo... party has been postponed until after the baby is born.
I'm trying not to go too crazy with the party preps. Typically, I expend
too much energy up front, that by the time the guests arrive, I want to
just run and hide. This year, guests are encouraged to bring something
to gnosh, and I've bought several things from etsy for sweet treats.
(Unfortunately, one of the cookie selections smell and taste a bit like
dish detergent. Disappointed in that, but the others are fabulous!)

Off I go. Gotta get some zzzzzz before tomorrow gets crazy. Happy

Thought of the Day #276 - Admitting a Prejudice

Driving down the highway and seeing deer antlers sticking out the back
of a truckbed, I will admit that my first feeling is "idiot on board".

I'm sure not all hunters are idiots, but a great many are. The guys that
brag about the number of points on the stag's rack only makes me think
the guy (or girl, for that matter) is speaking proudly of their IQ

"Gun go boom, deer died, I have 10 point IQ. Me wanna put on wall. Ain't
I great?"

Sorry, but that's how I see it.

I really would prefer that hunting was a fair fight. I would have
respect for guys who would run up to deer and take 'em with their bare
hands. Now, THAT would be impressive.

Thought of the Day #275 - Graham

Homemade, buttery graham cracker crust is such a wondeful flavor. Why
can't premade crusts or desserts with the "graham" crust taste like the
homemade or even something close?? It just seems so simple. Instead, the
storebought crusts taste like floury cardboard with some wheat chaffe
thrown in. Always soooo disappointing.

Thought of the Day #274 - How Is Yawning Related to Smartphones?

Both are suggestively done. Sit with other people checking email/news or
other content and suddenly your fingers get twitchy and YOU MUST check
out your own phone...just like being near a yawner. It's soooo

Thought of the Day #273 - Analog v. Digital

I genuinely enjoy analog pursuits where I get my hands dirty, but I
really, really wish there was an "undo" button.

Thought of the Day #272 - Hate & Fear

I believe that hate is often tied to fear - fear of the unknown, fear of
becoming more like the person hated, fear of the persons actions, etc.
Quite simply stated, if we overcome unfounded fears, we have less hatred
towards our fellow man.

While I was away....

...the jams I made this year suddenly organized themselves. Ok, ok...Ivan did it. It was a crazy jammin' year:

Thought of the Day #271 - Indecent Exposure

I saw a news story tonight about a guy who was arrested for indecent
exposure for being naked in his own home. A woman and a child saw him as
they were walking by his uncovered window and apparently called the cops
after seeing his "bits" exposed through the window.
This link has the full article in it:

I don't know how I can describe the incredulity I feel over this. NO ONE
should be charged with indecent exposure when in their own home. I don't
even care if the guy was masturbating in the window. It's his home and
his right to do what he wants regardless of window coverings. The
passersby are the ones choosing to *peep* through the man's windows.
While children may look, it was clear the guy wasn't trying to draw the
child's attention...he was just drinking/making coffee.
It's the parent's responsibility to educate their children not to look
in other's windows or to tell them to look away if there is something

If this man ends up getting convicted, it will set a really bad
presidence. Will we be recovered by law to draw the drapes whenever
having sex? The joys of sex in a ray of sunshine would be over. Would we
be required to glass block EVERY bathroom window to prevent accidental
genital exposure? Will we be required by law to put on a robe the moment
we jump from the shower?? There is no end to how much this would limit
one of our simpler liberies.

Save your freedom and vacuum naked in your house without reserve!

Thought of the Day #270 - Wondering if You're Fat?

There's one fool-proof way to be sure...take a plane ride in a 737. The
seats are narrow, the aisles are narrow...sure to "out" you as a true
fat person. And if you're not fat, but have undiagnosed clausterphobia,
that too will be revealed.

Thought of the Day #269 - Fun!

I'm having a blast in New Jersey meeting old friends and new! Sorry for
the lack of TotDs. I am staying up waaaaaay too late, but at least
conversing is a much better excuse than "watching TV" or "browsing
online" for my time disappearing so quickly.

Thought of the Day #268 - 10000

The stockmarket hit above 10000, the first time in a year. I wouldn't
throw all my pennies back in, yet, if I were you. I think there's still
a lot of bumps ahead.

I swear, dying my hair takes 10 years off my face. Bonus!

Thought of the Day #266 - Planning for Travel

On Thursday, I'm heading to New Jersey for the BBW bash in Springfield.
(If you're going to be there, please say howdy if you see me...) The
weather is going to be chilly -- under 50s for highs. Which means I'm
going to need warmer clothing...which means it's going to take up more
space in my carryon. (Just say no to checked luggage, if you can!) Fat
girl's clothing is larger than average size clothing, right? So, if
you're average size, four day's worth of clothing will easily fit in a
carryon. For me, I've gotta make very careful choices. In the summer, I
can eek out a week's wardrobe in a carryon, but just barely. So, all of
this babble means more planning ahead than my normal of packing the
morning of the flight. Boo. Well, back to my list writing. As you

Thought of the Day #265 - Bullet Express

I realize the Bullet Express infomercial is supposed to be full of good
ol' white trash humor and semi-offensive stereotyped portrayals, but I
think what is the funniest part about it is the food preparation. The
food prepared, as demonstrated, would be soupy yuck. It surprises me
that with cooking shows as prominent as they are in today's culture that
an infomercial would even attempt to bluff the audience like that? Maybe
the people watching the shows on FoodNetwork never actually make
anything and don't have a clue as to how pizza is made? It just
befuddles me...

Thought of the Day #264 - Tumor Followup

As a followup to the recent "Tumor?" TotD, I'm happy to report that the
bump on my pinkie is almost gone, without medical intervention. Not a
tumor! Yay!

Thought of the Day #263 - B & L

In days gone by, when working at the office or in school, I rarely ate
breakfast or lunch. I wouldn't get hungry nor suffer any ill effects.
Jump ahead to the synthetic thyroid hormone years and now I actually get
downright crabby if I don't have something to eat during the entire day.
Today, I was too busy to eat during the day. Long about 4o'clock, I was
in a "don't bother me!!" mode. Grrrr. I didn't really have physical
effects, but dang, my emotional strings were short! Had dinner and all
was well with the world again. I almost think I was better off being moods weren't dependent upon nourishment. Of course I
didn't have extreme highs either...just a constant hummmmmmmm....

Thought of the Day #261 - October

I'm workin' on a sweet little baby quilt for my soon-to-be
granddaughter. I'm hosting the baby shower on Halloween, too. It's going
to be a peek-a-BOO Party. Gotta get the invites done this week and get
other stuff done, too. Time is moving fast! Anyway, if I'm horrible at
timely blogging, you know why...

Thought of the Day #260 - Variable pricing

We would never put up with variable pricing on electricity or gas, so
why should we accept variations in the charges for cable television from
household to household? We don't really have options to choose the cable
provider due to contracts with municipalities. (Don't bother suggesting
satellite which I had a few years ago and had horrible connectivity.)
So, the cost should not vary from home to home in the same area since
there is absolutely no applicable competition.

Thought of the Day #259 - Can't shake it

Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and George W Bush look "separated at birth".
Is it just me??

Thought of the Day #258 - Tumor?

While I don't really think it's a tumor, a recently discovered ball
under the skin on my pinky, the thought has crossed my mind. Knowing
just enough about disease to be dangerous is a bad thing. For now, I
will just obsess about the ball. If it changes I might consult a
professional. Maybe. You know there are really only four options - live
with it; it will go away on its own; it will go away with treatment; or
I'll die from it.

Thought of the Day #257 - Letterman

While watching David Letterman tell his tale of extortion for sexual
affairs, I felt uncomfortable with the laughter from the audience. It
was as if they couldn't accept that he would tell a serious story. It
made me feel really sad for Letterman. Admitting the potentially
embarrassing information on TV was smart to ward off others who may come
forward with a similar plan to garner money from him, but being unable
to tell the tale without snickering from the audience must have been
frustratingly unnerving.

Thought of the Day #256 - Shock

Everyone likes a weather ToTD, right? We went from A/C one day to the
heater basting the next. Such a drastic change. Brrrr. Ok, I'm going
back to my cave now...
