Thought of the Day #255 - Changing Seasons

As I write this, a blustery change in the weather is blowing in. It's
supposed to get up only to 54 degrees for a high tomorrow...easily 30
lower than it has been all week. Brrr.

With this low high comes below freezing lows which means the end of
canning and freezing of items from the garden. YAY! It's been a long
haul with making/processing two or more things every day. I've canned
fruits and jams, chopped and frozen tons of veggies.

It's been a banner year for jams. When I'm finally done this weekend,
I'll have canned well over 500 jars. Seriously! Some will end up being
sold on, but most will be given away to friends and family. The
beauty of Etsy is that the sales will cover the cost of the jars and
supplies for the entirety. What more could ya ask? Anyway, long canning
season...ending soon. Yay!! http;

Thought of the Day #253 - Dexter

Dexter = the main reason to subscribe to Showtime. The new season
started tonight...and I am already sad that it will be a whole week
until the next episode. For previous season, I watched episodes back to
back on DVD, so this "patience" thing is going to be tricky.

Thought of the Day #252 - Finds!

Englishman's metal detector finds record treasure trove

A man using a metal detector in a rural English field has uncovered the
largest Anglo-Saxon gold hoard ever found -- an "unprecedented" treasure
that sheds new light on history, archaeologists said Thursday.

How awesome would that be? Just using a decade old detector and happen
upon a hoard of gold and silver?? Ahhhhh, any treasure hunter's dream!

Thought of the Day #251 - Friends

I've been a bit busy with a couple of friends who were coming through
town, on their way back to Minnesota. It's always good to have visitors!
We had a sweet, low-key time, that seemed to go far too fast. :-(

Thought of the Day #250 - Bread & Butter

Is there anything better than salty butter (cold or melty) on a chunk of
freshly baked bread? Yum! I wish I had some right now.

Thought of the Day #249 - Yellowstone

So much beauty, so much wildlife. Well worth a trip! (Short and sweet,

Thought of the Day #248 - Vacations

Vacations shouldn't be stressful. I'm just sayin'.

Thought of the Day #247 - Texture

I'm a sucker for sweetly textured fabric. The duvet cover on the bed at
the hotel was just beautiful. Simple, white, but soooo detailed. Love

Thought of the Day #246 - Yellowstone

I'm off to see the beauty of of Yellowstone Park in the morning. So
excited! It's been decades since I was there. I hear Old Faithful isn't
quite as faithful as it used to be. I will report back on its

Thought of the Day #245 - Peaches

Fingernails are stained brown in the corners. This can mean just one
thing. Peach processing. Peach jams, peach juice, peach pies, peach
crisp, canned peaches, frozen peaches. Processing is well underway and
will probably continue for a few more weeks. Poor fingernails.

Thought of the Day #244 - Google Phone

I'm a Google lover. Love Picasa. Love Google Analytics. Love sooo many
things, really. They rarely disappoint. Recently, I signed up for Google
phone. While I haven't publicized my number yet, I have been playing
around with the features. The most obvious benefit is the ability to
have one number that rolls to several numbers in the order you specify.
The other bonus is the ability to "send to voicemail" when a call comes
in...then, when the caller is in voicemail, you get to eavesdrop, and
accept the call during the message. Kind of like the good ol' answering
machine, but you could be *anywhere*.
Oh, another benefit...the ability to shop for phone numbers in any area
code. I selected a 424 area code 'cuz I searched on word match in order
to pick a number. (Yup, another built in feature to Google phone set
Over the next few weeks, I'm sure I'll fine even more benefits...if I
find something amazing, I'll blog about it.

Thought of the Day #243 - Political Separation

I am starting to feel that the difference between the two major
political parties in the US is solely "it's about me and mine" vs. "it's
about what's best for society." The former seems really short sighted
and selfish.

Thought of the Day #242 - Reality Trash

I'm not sure what causes me to watch the trashy reality tv shows aside
from extreme boredom, but when I end up seeing the shows I'm
consistently impressed by poor manners and cattiness. I'm sure I've
mentioned this before, but seriously...are there people like this in
*real* life??

Thought of the Day #241 - Busy Signal

Working on some Halloween stuff for Etsy. No time for deep or shallow
thoughts for that matter. Have a great weekend!

Thought of the Day #240 - South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson

The knee jerk reaction by Republicans regarding Tuesday's presidential speech to school children was questionable. But Joe Wilson, a Republican from South Carolina, showed today what Republicans really wanted to show kids -- It's OK to be disrespectful to the President. It's OK to be disrespectful to people who are speaking at a podium. It's OK to be disrespectful to people who have a differing opinion.

Way to go, Mr. Wilson. Lesson taught and learned by millions tonight. One can only hope you are afforded the same treatment through the rest of your shortened political career.

Thought of the Day #239 - Harvest & Halloween

Harvest is in full swing right now and because of that, thoughts of
Halloween are whirring in my head. Such a fun time of year!

Thought of the Day #238 - Stop! Thief!

The number of people we see stealing fruit, especially peaches, from the
yard is escalating. It's driving me batty. What the f*ck. Is this normal
behavior? I wouldn't dream of stealing from a garden or orchard. Does it
take *that much* effort to ask?? Bastids.

Thought of the Day #237 - Can Do!

I wonder how many people look at items on and think, "That's a
great idea! I wanna make/do that."
I am one of those. It's such an inspirational site. Of course, the
number of people who say, "That's great! I wanna buy that," is obviously
high or the site wouldn't be as successful as it is. If I had all of the
energy and time to make all the stuff that inspires me, I would be
happy. But how many of us have endless time/energy available?? Yeah,
that's what I thought...

Thought of the Day #236 - Bubble Gum

I have a hankering for some bubble gum. I wanna blow some huge bubbles
and when they pop, I wanna try to scrape the shards off my face.

Thought of the Day #235 - Medical Theory

It's been a while since I've come up with a medical theory. It's time,
So, here it is...
The thyroid controls metabolic rate which can affect pretty much every
basic function of the body. Hypothyroidism slows the metabolic rate in
those afflicted, resulting in a slower pulse, slower hair growth, lower
body temperature, etc.

I'm thinking that the growth of tumors could be slowed in those put into
a hypothyroid state. (Granted, the side effects of hypothyroidism could
negate the benefits of the slowed tumor.) Or maybe the tumor cold be
somehow exluded from the benefits of the thyroid hormone? Not sure how
that would work as my physiology knowlwdge is limited.

Completely worthless theory? Anyone?

Another thyroid theory...less thought out than the last (and the last
wasn't well mulled), but ya know...lemme just throw it out there. Not
sure at all about this, but I'm thinking that a mild hypothyroid induced
state could slow aging.
Maybe? Maybe not...but ya know, the search for the fountain of youth is

Thought of the Day #234 - Closets

I live in a house that is over 80 years old. In those days, people had
less crap to hang onto, so closets weren't very important. In a three
bedrooms house, there's two little closets. The master bedroom has no
closet. I dream of the days when I had an apartment with a massive
walkin closet. I had my clothes arranged in color order. (Yes, a bit
anal!) There was so much shelving that I had room to spare. Ah, the good
old days. I now reach into the side of the wee closet where the clothing
rod is and "feel" for the article I'm seeking. If I'm lucky, I'll grab
the right one.

Thought of the Day #233 - Delicates #2

Continuing along the delicate theme -- undies.
Life is far too short to wear uncomfortable, holey (holy!), wholly too
tight (or loose) underpants/underwear/underroos/panties. Seriously. If
this is your situation, STOP IT!
