Irrational Sound Reactions...

At times when I hear a relatively close train whistle at night, I get an irrational fear that the train is off the tracks and coming toward me. It's a strange bristling fear deep within me that makes no logical sense. When it hits I'm usually not even close enough to the railroad tracks to be within striking distance if there was a derailment. So, yeah, just thought I'd share.

Gee thanks, I am close enough to the tracks to hear train whistles at night but I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT DERAILMENT!!! Something else to feed my insomnia!

when I was a kid I would get totally freaked out that they (whoever THEY were) were laying tracks down the hallway and into my room. Interestingly, the train wasn't "out to get me". It was just going to make a lot of noise and scare the crap out of little old 4 year old me. This is what happenes when you grow up in "railroad flats" in NYC

You would have FREAKED out living where I've lived. My last apartment was about 45 feet from train tracks, and two street crossings... so horns and bells galore!! :)
