Nothing Says "Good Eats" like Our Feather Friends Hanging Dead in the Dining Rom
This 19th century pasel piece was found in a woman's garage. While the pastel work is beautiful, the subject matter for the dining room wall is a bit...ummm... old school. These days, we like to believe our dinner flesh comes from a plastic package. Ducks and quails strung up just doesn't ring "good eats" for our modern society.

Out Takin' Pictures at the Great Salt Lake
Has Spring sprung in Utah Yet? And, what have you got planned for this years garden?
Not quite sprung yet, but it has been lovely. Nothing unusual for the garden. Just basics like tomatoes, peppers, corn, beans, etc. I wish we could grow carrots or cruciferous vegs, but they don't do well in our soil.

They come at night, mostly.
Went up north hoping to see the aurora from the most recent sun flares. Unfortunately, no flares, but I did figure out how to take some pretty star shots. I feel like I've developed a new toy! The possibilities of night shots are endless. It takes a LOOOONG exposure time (30 seconds or so), so one can't be too creative in the winter cold, but come summer...watch out!
By the way, the shadowing in these shots was from a full moon. It turned the night into day!

You seem to have a lot of knowledge when it comes to searching old ghost towns for antiques. Do you have any tips? And, is there an online website or book that tells people which towns are the best to search?
I don't think I have that much knowledge about it, but I have hours and hours of experience -- I've chewed on a lot of ghost town dust in my time.
I don't really have any tips aside from just go and peek around.
You can look at sites like http://www.ghosttowns.com/ for inspiration. And if the music when you're on the town specific pages doesn't inspire you to get out there and kick your heels in the dirt, nothing will. Give this one a try: http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ut/frisco.html Ooooh, doggie, that there's one nice n purty ghost town.

Any guesstimates on when Spring will arrive this year? Do you have a groundhog on your farm?
It's been a crazy non-winter here, so it seems like spring is here already. There's rumor of an inch of snow tomorrow, so maybe that will help with the winter feel. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining at all! Best winter ever!! I suspect spring will be in full swing in March. Tulips and daffodils will once again show their beauty and hope of summer temperatures will abound.
We had a ground hog type creature a few years ago. I think it was just passing through on its way to a less suburban landscape.

Indecisive
I took this "bird on a wire" photo yesterday. When I looked out the window from my office, there were literally hundreds of birds on the line. By the time I grabbed the camera ande went out the back door, the numbers had dwindled to what you see here. I think they must have been watching me as much as I was watching them. Ah, well. So, then I had some plain-jane photos. That just won't do, right? So, I manipulated them later yesterday. I like how each of these looks. I couldn't post just one!Monday, January 23, 2012

Do you make New Year's resolutions? (I don't)
No, not really. I make some tentative plans and just hope for the best.
